do you see what i see?

dolan geiman mixed media.... he definitely sees things differently. love it.

do you know what is awesome about you? you see things differently than me.

if someone told you to draw a flower… and they told me to draw a flower – they would be different.

if someone asked you to make up a poem about love… yours would be different from mine.

if someone wanted to know your favorite movie… it would most likely be different from mine (unless of course you love the movie Grease and can sing every lyric… except for the inappropriate ones, of course).

the point is… we are all uniquely designed and created. because of that, i’m so grateful for you. i’m so grateful for our differences. i love that you will write something i may never write, or draw or sing (none of us are in danger of me singing in public), do you get that?

we hear alot about how our fingerprints are unique and our DNA, as proof of a creator… to me,  the way that we create something original to us every time we create is a BIG GIANT BRAZEN PROOF of a creator.

singers – every time you sing a song, it comes out differently and is the first time you’ve sung it exactly like that…you take breaths in different lengths.

painters – every time you stroke a  brush, your paint glides differently across the surface

writers – every new piece you write is the first of its kind

actors – every show is  a little different.

you see what i’m getting at… every minute of your day and your life is  a testament to our uber-creative creator and the things he has built us to do. we are so blessed.

Philippians 1:6 (The Message)

3-6Every time you cross my mind, I break out in exclamations of thanks to God. Each exclamation is a trigger to prayer. I find myself praying for you with a glad heart. I am so pleased that you have continued on in this with us, believing and proclaiming God’s Message, from the day you heard it right up to the present. There has never been the slightest doubt in my mind that the God who started this great work in you would keep at it and bring it to a flourishing finish on the very day Christ Jesus appears.

i adore this artist…you will too.

i met an artist that i adore, richard fudge because a writer friend that i also treasure, susan isaccs (she wrote angry conversations with god – an incredibly brilliant book where susan takes God to couples’ counseling. seriously!?)  posted a photo of the painting she purchased from him. i saw the painting… and had to know more about the artist.

In following fudge, I fell in love with his main character, Chester. Chester shows you how he feels, using his chest as the mask of his heart. Richard went through a paintful experience… Chester helped Richard through it and the rest of us gained an iconic figure to share the pains and joys of daily life.

richard fudge original

Fudge did something else that amazed me… he started a prayer journal. he started mailing this journal around the country to various artists involved in ministry… i asked how i could get involved. he sent me the journal, i painted a picture and a prayer in it. it continued to go around the country. i was driving through nashville in february and finally got a chance to meet richard fudge in person… and tour his studio/gallery/place of dwelling. i heard his story.

this week it’s his turn. he’s going on a trip to meet many of the artists he has been corresponding with across the country.

two years ago i did a similar thing. i went on a friend tour. i’ll tell you more about that one day. for now… let’s think about the things that richard has done well

-used his art to bring attention to his creator

-connected with other artists

-taken action on his desire to deepen relationships.

what can you do today to bring attention to your creator? how will you connect with other artists? what can you do to deepen the relationships you have? and don’t fudge on this one!

a bloomin’ revelation

as i was driving to work this morning i marvelled at some of the yards that i saw. color was bursting out of dirt… flowers in all of their magnificent glory (not yet eaten by rabbits). in some yards they were carefully plotted and manicured and it hit me that a gardener is another kind of artist altogether… but you know what’s really awesome about being a gardener? you rely entirely on the creator to be able to pull it off. without his command the flowers just would not grow. without the rain and sun, they would never sprout and bloom.

however…this is also true, flowers droop… but the word of God goes on forever.

revel in the daily expressions of his majesty, but rest in the eternal expression of his love.

flowers and kids and a dog, oh my.

flowers and kids and a dog, oh my

1 Peter 1:22
Now that you’ve cleaned up your lives by following the truth, love one another as if your lives depended on it. Your new life is not like your old life. Your old birth came from mortal sperm; your new birth comes from God’s living Word. Just think: a life conceived by God himself! That’s why the prophet said, The old life is a grass life, its beauty as short-lived as wildflowers; Grass dries up, flowers droop, God’s Word goes on and on forever. This is the Word that conceived the new life in you.

not just the bullet points

some people are creative with food.

as artistically creative people, we enjoy the process as much as the product.

the brainstorming sessions can be as satisfying as the end result.

we enjoy the words that form the thought as much as the formed thought.

we listen to lyrics the first time.

we want more than just the bullet points.

we have the bonus that our art (of any type) is an expression of our soul… and other people can see it, feel it, experience it… if they so choose, and if we choose to share it.

arguably, accountants are creative with numbers, spreadsheets, and the like, but their work is not seen or celebrated by the general population. lawyers are creative with arguments. doctors are creative with treatments. houseparents are creative with discipline, budgets, households. the list goes on. but this blog is not about them… this is about you.

Being entrusted with such a wonderful ability to view the world differently, comes with great responsibility to manage it and protect ourselves from letting our egos get involved. we must keep our mind on the fact that all good things come from God. it is not our own doing that allows us to “create” but the creator who infuses us with his spirit and his work.

our glory is his glory. share your recent artistic endeavors with all of us. we know where it came from.

James 1:17 (The Message)

16-18So, my very dear friends, don’t get thrown off course. Every desirable and beneficial gift comes out of heaven. The gifts are rivers of light cascading down from the Father of Light. There is nothing deceitful in God, nothing two-faced, nothing fickle. He brought us to life using the true Word, showing us off as the crown of all his creatures.
